01
Before October 7
Tal was nine, the youngest child in the Goldstein-Almog family, and lived in Kibbutz Kfar Aza. He played basketball, drew cartoons and attended a gifted-students class twice a week.
02
October 7
When the attack reached Kfar Aza on October 7, Tal sheltered with his mother Chen and siblings. Chen and the three children were taken to Gaza; Tal’s father Nadav and older sister Yam were killed in Kfar Aza.
03
Captivity
Tal spent 51 days in captivity with Chen, his sister Agam and brother Gal. In Agam’s account, she watched Gal and Tal draw in the room while Chen cried; Agam described the four of them keeping quiet because they feared being heard.
04
Return
Tal returned to Israel on November 26, 2023, after 51 days, with Chen, Agam and Gal. A photograph published that day showed Tal and Gal playing with toys after their release at Hatzerim.
05
After the return
After the children returned, their grandmother Varda described the reunion as joyful and painful: she was excited to see them smiling while grieving relatives killed in Kfar Aza. In later interviews, Chen and Agam described the fear the family carried through captivity, including the children’s effort to stay quiet while Chen cried.
