Before October 7
Noam Or grew up in Be’eri with his parents Yonat and Dror, younger sister Alma and older brother Yahli. His room was upstairs in the family home, while Alma’s bedroom was the protected room on the entrance floor. Noam attended Nofei Habesor High School. In the family’s campaign for his return, they described him as sociable, full of energy and affection, with a contagious smile and a rolling laugh.

October 7
On October 7, Noam and family sheltered in their Be’eri home’s protected room before attackers set the house on fire. Uncle Ahal Besorai later said Noam and Alma jumped from a window and tried to hide, but attackers found them. Besorai said captors placed Noam in the trunk of a stolen car. Older brother Yahli was away in northern Israel for a pre-military service year.

In captivity
Noam was held in Gaza for 50 days. Uncle Ahal Besorai said Noam and Alma were held with Carmel Gat in a room inside a house and did not know their mother had been killed. He said the three supported each other when one felt low; Noam and Alma hoped to see their mother after release and learned only after returning that she had been killed.

Return
Noam and Alma were released together on November 25, 2023, after 50 days. They reached the Rafah crossing around 11:20 p.m. and returned to Israel about half an hour later.

After return
After returning, Noam learned that Yonat had been murdered; the family was still waiting for news of Dror. In December 2023, mako reported on a TikTok video in which he thanked people for their support, said he was okay and asked for updates on the trends he had missed. After Carmel Gat’s death, Noam thanked her on Instagram for looking after him in captivity. In May 2024, the family learned that Dror had been killed on October 7. His body was returned in November 2025. That month, Noam’s paternal grandfather Yuval said Noam and Alma were living with him and his wife in Hatzerim and that Noam was working during a pre-military year of service.
