01
Before October 7
Alma Or was 13 and lived in Kibbutz Be’eri with her parents, Yonat and Dror, and her older brothers Noam and Yahli. Her family described her as a gifted volleyball player who loved makeup, trips and sunsets. She had an eye for design like Yonat, who ran a woodworking boutique and home-design gallery. Alma’s bedroom was the protected room on the entrance floor of their home; her brothers’ rooms were upstairs.

October 7
On October 7, Alma and her family sheltered in the protected room at their Be’eri home before attackers set the house on fire. Her uncle Ahal Besorai later said Alma and Noam jumped from a window and tried to hide, but attackers found them. Besorai said captors put Alma in the front seat of a stolen car beside eight attackers. Her older brother Yahli was away in northern Israel for a pre-military service year.
03
In captivity
Alma was held in Gaza for 50 days. Her uncle Ahal Besorai said she and Noam were held with Carmel Gat in a room inside a house, and did not know their mother had been killed. Besorai said the three supported one another when one felt low, and that Alma and Noam hoped to see their mother after release. They learned she had been killed only after returning to Israel.

Return
Alma and Noam were released together on November 25, 2023, in the second hostage exchange, after 50 days. They reached the Rafah crossing at about 11:20 p.m. and returned to Israel about half an hour later.

After return
When she returned, Alma learned that Yonat had been murdered and that the family was still waiting for news of Dror. In February 2024, she wrote about missing her mother’s laughter and hugs, and the questions she used to ask about school and volleyball practice. She remembered that they had told each other they loved one another on October 7. In May 2024, the family learned that Dror had also been killed that day. His body was returned in November 2025. In a November 2025 interview, her paternal grandfather Yuval said Alma and Noam were living with him and his wife in Hatzerim; Alma was in tenth grade and still playing volleyball.
