01
Life before
Adina Moshe built her life in Kibbutz Nir Oz with her husband, Sa’id (David) Moshe. Their granddaughter described the kibbutz as where the couple met and began their family. Adina cared for young children, and residents across generations knew her through that work. At home, family gathered around her Shabbat table. Her granddaughter remembered the maqluba and Iraqi dishes she prepared for David, and how deeply the couple loved one another. Adina later learned Arabic and taught it to Israelis, hoping that language could help people understand neighbors across the nearby border. Friends and relatives remember a home filled with food, conversation and family visits.

Abduction
On the morning of October 7, 2023, Adina and David were inside the protected room of their home in Nir Oz. The community account and Adina’s January 2024 interview describe attackers breaking through the window. They pulled Adina outside while David lay wounded in the room. Before he was killed, he blew her a farewell kiss. Adina was taken through the window and driven toward Gaza on a motorcycle between two armed men. One captor tore an earring from her ear; she offered him the other before he could rip it away. A passerby took her glasses. She later recalled these moments in an interview about the journey from her home into captivity.

Captivity
Adina spent 49 days in Gaza. In her January 2024 interview, she described a five-hour walk down several flights of dark, airless tunnels before reaching an underground room. Captives were told they would be released within days, and believed it. The room had one small LED light; their portions of canned food and rice grew smaller. Three men began giving informal lectures, first about Jewish history and film, then about Spanish Jews in the Middle Ages when Holocaust discussion became too painful. Adina asked guards to lower their rifles because they frightened a child. She also asked to walk through the tunnel, explaining that her heart condition required movement; on one walk she found two men held separately in cells. These are details she gave about her own captivity in that interview.
04
Return
Adina was released alive on November 24, 2023, after 49 days. She did not know whether captors were transferring or killing her until she saw the Red Cross at the handover. Back in Israel, she learned the fate of the home and of David, who had been killed during the attack. Her return was one event in the family’s story; the life she had built in Nir Oz had been violently broken.
05
Aftermath
In a July 2024 interview, Adina spoke about the men who had shared the tunnels with her: Haim Peri, Yoram Metzger and Alex Dancyg. She had last seen them alive while captive and wept as she recalled them after their deaths were announced. She described the moment captors dragged her from the mattress as the other hostages protested. Her interview placed the losses alongside the days they had spent together underground. A community profile later located Adina with the Nir Oz residents in Karmei Gat, among her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
