The story
Yuval Hakshur was born in Jerusalem on 11 May 2004, the daughter of Eti Yael and Reuven and a younger sister to Shirel and Maayan. She grew up in the city, attended Ariel School, and later studied at Gilo Comprehensive High School, where she chose the theater track. After high school, she worked until her enlistment. Yuval loved music, trips, and going out, and dreamed of studying architecture. As she prepared for the next stage of her life, she enrolled in architecture and interior design studies.
In the IDF, she served in the Military Police at Beit Lid. After completing her compulsory service, she continued to serve in reserve rotations during the war. On 7 April 2025, when she arrived at Anatot base for her reserve duties, she was struck by a truck at the entrance to the base. She was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and fought for her life for two weeks. On 20 April 2025, 22 Nisan 5785, she died during her military service, aged twenty. She was buried at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery and is survived by her parents and two sisters.
In October 2026, her mother Eti spoke on behalf of the bereaved families at the Military Police Corps' memorial ceremony at Beit Lid. She recalled the journeys from Jerusalem to the base and the containers of food she brought for Yuval and her friends in Yamlat. That everyday memory brought the connection between home and service into the ceremony, along with a mother's care for her daughter and her friends. Eti noted that Yuval had served as a military police sergeant, and spoke of a smiling girl and a home filled with friends who wanted to be near her.
In her remarks, her mother described Yuval's generous heart and her willingness to help anyone who needed her. She said Yuval would never ignore someone in need of help and was always there for others. At the ceremony, she also spoke of the enduring longing and the responsibility to preserve the memory of their sons and daughters and tell their stories. Within the corps' ceremony, the food containers, the friends, and the full house remained personal memories of Yuval's life and of the place she held in the lives of those close to her. May her memory be a blessing.
