The story
Yehonatan Shalom Aharoni, son of Ofira Mazal and David, lived in Kokhav HaShahar. He grew up and was educated, among other places, at HaRo’eh Yeshiva and Netivot Dror Yeshiva in Telem, and was a graduate of the Sinai youth group. The brief account of his life on the Binyamin Regional Council website recalls the institutions where he was educated and his place in his friends’ lives.
The council’s account recalls his wish to do good, his love of people and his concern for others. He made a point of respecting everyone and speaking respectfully, and was loved and valued by his friends. The council also describes his natural curiosity and desire to learn and understand things deeply, alongside the grace and broad smile that accompanied his treatment of others.
The Ministry of Defense’s Izkor website commemorates Yehonatan Shalom with the rank of corporal, affiliated with Technology and Maintenance. The council states that he served in the Egoz Unit of the Commando Brigade and fell in the line of duty at Camp Shraga near Acre during the Swords of Iron war. He fell on 26 Nisan 5786, 13 April 2026, aged twenty, according to the Ministry of Defense record.
Yehonatan Shalom was laid to rest at the Nahariya Military Cemetery. He left behind his parents and four siblings. His friends honor his memory in many ways, as described on the council’s memorial page. May his memory be a blessing.
