The story
Vladislav Sergienko, son of Lilia and Igor and brother to Elena, was born in Ukraine on 31 March 1993. According to a Ynet article, he immigrated to Israel at twenty and enlisted a year later as a lone soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade. His sister said that his service was a source of pride and part of his identity. He wanted to find his place in Israel and build his life there. During his military service, he received support from the Ah Gadol organization, which assists lone soldiers and immigrants preparing for military service.
After his discharge, Vladislav chose to maintain his connection with the organization as a volunteer. A tribute published in Mynet Ra’anana stated that he had immigrated through the Sela Nitzana program and later helped new immigrants preparing to enlist. Someone who had once received support became someone who guided others through their first steps in the army. Knafayim, an organization to which he belonged, remembered his efforts to build a life in Israel and his volunteering for others, describing his path as a story of integration and contribution to Israeli society.
In civilian life, he met Anna, who was the mother of two children, and lived with her in Jaffa. Their son Aviel was born in June 2023. According to his official life story on Izkor, he reported for reserve duty on 10 October 2023 and served in the Infantry. In the Ynet article, his sister described the difficulties he experienced after a long period of reserve service and the family’s attempts to obtain help for him. Alongside their grief over his death, his family worked to obtain the recognition and support they needed.
Sergeant first class Vladislav Sergienko was thirty-one when he died. Izkor records that he fell in the line of duty during the war and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He is survived by his partner, a child, his mother and his sister. In July 2025, Ynet reported that the Ministry of Defense had recognized his family as a bereaved family after a prolonged struggle. His sister expressed hope that other families could receive the support they needed without having to go through a similar struggle. May his memory be a blessing.
