The story
Roi Wasserstein, the son of Dina and Roni, was born in 2000 and grew up in Netanya. He was the fifth child in the family, brother of Tom, Bar, Tal and Ido. He attended Be'eri School and later the S. Y. Agnon High School, where he took advanced courses in chemistry and biology. As a teenager, he volunteered with Magen David Adom and provided medical assistance. He later enlisted in the Armored Corps, served in the Iron Tracks Brigade, qualified as a medic and served as a battalion medic. He continued his reserve service in a forward surgical company.
After his compulsory service, he studied electrical engineering at Afeka College and worked in security. His employer, T&M, wrote on its website that he was a security shift supervisor at the Israel Military Industries facility in Ramat Hasharon. His colleagues described a courteous, modest person who took the lead and was also an outstanding combat medic. Alongside his studies and work, he found time to help his fellow students, remained close to his family, and enjoyed exercise and riding his motorcycle.
When the war began, he reported for reserve duty. A report of his funeral described his service in the 401st Brigade's medical evacuation team, treating the wounded and carrying out evacuations under fire. He served more than three hundred days in the reserves. Battalion commander Moshe Wolowitz spoke of a soldier and medic who volunteered for missions, was devoted to his role and gave those around him a sense of security. His brother Ido described the struggle between the burden of returning to reserve duty and the wish to stay alongside his comrades, and the difficulties that accompanied Roi at home as well.
Roi died on 30 July 2025, 5 Av 5785, at the age of twenty-four. He was laid to rest in Netanya and is survived by his parents and four siblings. His family and commanders spoke at his funeral, calling for recognition of his service and the price he had borne. His story is recorded on the Izkor website, and his family works to commemorate him and help combat soldiers coping with psychological injuries. May his memory be a blessing.
