The story
Moshe Raanan Alfasi was born in Eilat on 20 April 1999, the only child of Zehava and David. When he was two, the family moved to Nahariya. During his secondary school years he studied in the HILA program of the city's Youth Advancement Unit. Staff remembered a modest, patient young man, always ready to help. From childhood he was interested in computers and electronics, and relatives and acquaintances turned to him with technology questions. He also loved animals, computer games and cars.
On 26 March 2018, Moshe enlisted in the C4I and Cyber Defense Corps. After completing compulsory service he continued as a career soldier, serving as a communications equipment officer in the 869th Battalion, the Shahaf unit. He studied communications systems in depth, resolved technical problems and took care of equipment and soldiers. His colleagues described great professionalism alongside a willingness to listen and help, and his soldiers saw him as someone close whom they could also approach about personal matters.
On his memorial page, communications officer Roi recalled their work together and their drives from Nahariya to the base. He remembered personal conversations, shared meals and the humor that accompanied their days of service. Alina, who had served under Moshe, described how he welcomed her into the department and gave her a sense of belonging. She recalled a small office where the soldiers gathered to talk and laugh, and his care to ensure they could turn to him at any hour. When he went to his studies on Tuesdays, they waited for his return the next day to share what had happened to them.
Moshe fell in the war on 21 Cheshvan 5784, 5 November 2023, aged 24. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Nahariya and is survived by his parents. On the memorial website, his friend Eyal described a friendship that began through the computer and lasted more than a decade, filled with conversations and shared laughter. Nahariya's Youth Advancement Unit held a Good Deeds Day in his memory and established a memorial garden. His family, friends and soldiers continue to remember his smile and the help he gave others. May his memory be a blessing.
