The story

Ariel Meir Taman, whose surname is written as תמן in the Izkor heading and also as טמן in the body of his life story and in press reports, was born on 31 March 1991 and grew up in Netivot. The son of Miriam and Dani, he was the brother of Odelia, Rafael, Bat El, Sarah, Yosef, Shulamit and Nehorai. He married Rivka, and they had four children: Ilai, Hadar, Benaya and Be'eri. As an adult, he lived in Ofakim, combining family life with reserve service and sustained medical volunteering.

In 2011 he began volunteering with Magen David Adom as an emergency medical technician, and in 2015 he completed a senior EMT course. A report of the organization's farewell tributes described him as a rapid-response volunteer who continued helping to save lives during the war. Yossi Aboharon, the volunteer coordinator at the Ofakim station, spoke of his wish to help and of work that extended beyond his volunteering hours. Elazar Tubul of the motorcycle unit emphasized the human sensitivity he brought to encounters with people in need, alongside his medical professionalism.

When the war began, he was called up for reserve duty in the Military Rabbinate. His work involved identifying bodies, including in the aftermath of the 7 October massacre. His sister Bat El said he saw this work as a mission and treated the fallen soldiers with dignity. She described him as a devoted father and husband who gave strength to the family. She said he had not shown them his difficulties, leaving a personal account of how he tried to support those around him even during that period.

Ariel Meir fell during his service in the war on 27 July 2025, at the age of thirty-four. He was found lifeless at his home in Ofakim, and according to the report issued at the time, the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division opened an investigation into the circumstances. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Netivot and is survived by his wife, four children, parents and siblings. His Magen David Adom colleagues and his family bade farewell to a man for whom helping others had been a continuing part of life. May his memory be a blessing.
